US Performance Center Proposes Athletic Research-Based Training Facilities at NC Research Campus

The Charlotte-based United States Performance Center (USPC) has approached the City of Kannapolis and officials at the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) regarding the possibility of collaborating on a project which would partner athletes and researchers together to prepare athletes for the rigors of Olympic and professional competition.

The proposed facility would utilize technology, athletic fields and research to provide testing and training for athletes, developmental programs for coaches and youth, sports medicine rehab, tournaments for youth and development athletes and more. Plans call for the Human Performance Center of Excellence Athletic Campus to be located on 40-70 acres at the NCRC.

NCRC is a 350-acre research center located just north of Charlotte, NC. The campus is a scientific community that collaboratively works to empower human health through nutrition. The campus is already home to eight universities, including Appalachian State, Duke, NC A&T, NC Central, NC State, UNC-CH, UNCC, UNCG Universities and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, and several entrepreneur firms. These entities focus research and development on nutritional crops, healthier foods and precision dietary needs.

The City of Kannapolis recently announced the approval of incentives for this project by the Kannapolis City Council. Click here to read the full press release by the City of Kannapolis.
